Our History

Lakeside Disability Rights Advocacy Initiative (Lakeside) was established in 2010 as a Community Based Organization (CBO) of and for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Krachi East Municipal of the Oti Region of Ghana. The Organization started with individual membership and has currently shifted its work to coordinate activities of PWDs, youth and women Self Advocacy Groups (SAG). We also facilitate activities of SAGs by identifying income projects and other livelihood programs that will sustain their organizations over a period of time. Access is created to enable everybody the opportunity to express themselves. PWDs, youth and women are neglected in decision making processes and are also given no opportunities to participate on an equal basis with others due to the low level of education on their rights, culture and other reasons. It is based on this that we have decided to form a united front that will give all PWDs, youth and women the opportunity regardless of their educational background to be aware of their rights and contribute in decision making and development. This we hope will create equality and equity for all.
